San Carlos Riptide is a U18 Boys Class 1 CYSA soccer
team which is currently playing in the Abronzino League.
Seamus McCorry played for one of Ireland’s premier clubs,
Glentoran F.C. He has also played for and coached his college
team. He currently plays in the majors for the San Francisco
Celtic Club, a semi-professional team in San Francisco.
Seamus has been coaching for 14 years, six of them in the
U.S. coaching youth teams, MLS Camps, high schools in
the bay area, adult teams and personal training with individual
players. This is his fifth year coaching the San Carlos Riptide.
Seamus holds a National "C" Coaching License.
The SC Riptide was first founded in Fall 2001 entering at a
Class 3 level everyone worked hard, had fun. Our players
improved individually and also as a team. We built on this
individual and team development during Spring League 2002,
and were undefeated in our division. Fall 2002 we were more
successful in tournament play than in our league games, with
2nd- and 4th-place tournament finishes. However the team’s
development continued to improve significantly that year and
we were optimistic about our future prospects.
Seamus McCorry joined our team as coach for the Spring League
of 2003. We finished in 3rd place with a 6-2-1 record. Fall 2003
was a 24-game season with four tournaments. Once again we
played better in tournaments than league, with 3rd and 4th place
tournament finishes. We won our flight in District Cup but missed
out on the consolation match by a predetermined points tiebreaker.
Fall 2004 was a successful season for the Riptide team. Our end
of season record was 9-2-0 and we maintained the lowest number
of goals scored against us in our division. We were hopeful to continue
this successful trend in upcoming seasons. We placed 4th in District
Cup.
Spring 2005 we finished 3rd place over all in our Spring League
Division. We were a Class 3 team playing with Class 1 teams in
preparation for moving up into Class 1 for Fall 2005.
Fall 2005 proved to be a very challenging season as this was
our first year to play in the Class 1 Abronzino League. Because
of our previously successful record for Fall 2004 and Spring
2005 we were placed/grouped into the upper division of our
age bracket where we played against very experienced returning
Class 1 teams (as opposed to our peers - newer first time Class 1
teams in the lower division). The first half of the league season was
a bit of a disappointment but as the season progressed we improved
as a team against the seasoned Class 1 teams. Although we did not
have the best ending record for our fall 2005 season we finished the
season knowing that we played competitive soccer.
Spring 2006, plagued with injuries and absences we were unable
to get a good flow to our games. We finished the season below where
we expected to be, however, we continued to see good growth and
improvement from our players and the team as a whole.
Fall 2006, we played in the lower Abronzino division for our age bracket.
Still plagued with injuries and absences we managed to take 4th place
out of 10 in our division. We continue to grow and improve as a team
and we are looking forward to playing Spring 2007.
